Welcome to Week 5
Last week was another productive week at Halio, with students continuing to take ownership of their learning across projects, trips, and daily school life. It has been great to see their confidence growing as they collaborate, create, and take on new responsibilities around the school.
This Week
Café and Event (Wednesday): This Wednesday, the café will be run by Alex, Daniel, and Harris. The event, organised by Amanda and Ping An, will be an art competition.
Friday Trips
Lower Primary will attend their swimming session at Hampton Swimming and Fitness. Please ensure your child brings swimwear, a towel, a change of clothes, a water bottle, and appropriate sun protection.
The Sabertooth Group and Silver Sharks will visit Baan Silapin Artist Village. Students will explore a range of paintings, sculptures, and crafts to develop their appreciation of art. They may use their Butterfly Money, and if bringing additional money, please limit this to no more than 200 Baht.
Middle school students will take a short trip to Blueport Mall. Students may bring up to 200 THB for small purchases. Alongside this, they will visit a botanical mural installation, which will support their upcoming work on sustainability, community identity, and symbolism.
Additional Opportunity
Hua Hin Swim School are offering a 1.5-hour session at True Arena every Thursday ater school. This will include picking students from school. The focus will be on developing swimming technique. If you are interested, please contact me directly via Line.
Highlights from Last Week
Last Friday, the Hummingbirds visited Phetchaburi Riverside Old Market as part of their Walls & Worlds project. Students explored the street art, identifying techniques from their lessons and gathering inspiration for their own work. They also visited a nearby temple for lunch before travelling to Khao Wang, where they enjoyed impressive views from the hilltop pagoda.
The Halio band performed at the café, playing Seven Nation Army and Ocean Man. Well done to Alisa, Alhena, Matthew, and Sarah. Also congratulation to Abigail, Amy, and Arina, who successfully ran the café, making a profit.
Upper Primary and Middle School students chose The Princess Bride for their film afternoon.
Students voted on the Sports Day medal system, deciding that 1st and 2nd place teams will receive medals. Patee also designed the medals which we will use for our sports day on Wednesday 17th June
The whole school spent time at the farm planting crops, including chillies, cucumbers, and tomatoes. Each class has their own plot of land to look after throughout the term.
Davide, Luca, and Mac set up a recycling area at the back of the canteen. Additionally, the Silver Sharks began work on a greenhouse project using recycled bottles. Please do not purchase new bottles, but any spare bottles from home are welcome.
The Penguins completed the first edition of The Penguin Post, their kindergarten newsletter. Please feel free to read their work here: https://www.halio.org/post/week-4-the-penguin-post-kindergarten-weekly
Alhena, along side the sports and events group, began planning for Sports Day. Both Alhena and Alex conducted surveys and wrote a detail itinerary for the event.
The Silver Sharks and Willow chose to use their self-direct time to support the Summer Hummingbirds with their street art work. Likewise, The Crispy Crabs also supported lower primary with English learning.
Circle Time Highlights
In the contest, Fah won a cap, Maxi won a 3D printed turtle, Bella won a bear keychain, Titcha won Malaysian currency, Tar Ping won a coin, and Alisa won a Harry Potter Ravenclaw item. Ping An also wrote a thoughtful entry and chose to gift her prize to a teacher.
The Hummingbirds shared their stone art and the Sabertooth Group shared their homemade plushies.
Alex helped lead Sports Day planning, with students voting for water sports and world sports themes for their student run day on Tuesday 16th June.
Little Makers presented their handmade bookmarks, Taste the Rainbow shared their homemade pancakes and Groot and Fah won the World Cup Club tournament representing Switzerland.
Relationship Education
Polar Bears
Students focused on personal boundaries and how to respond when feeling uncomfortable. They practised using clear language and also learned to give peers the opportunity to correct behaviour before escalating concerns.
Agent Owls
The focus shifted to behaviour in school, exploring what appropriate behaviour looks like both inside and outside the classroom, and why it matters.
The Hummingbirds
Students explored individuality and how their actions impact others. Each student reflected on what makes them unique, contributing to a shared class project celebrating these differences.
The Sabertooth Group
Students explored how the brain makes assumptions, using illusions and discussion to understand how perspectives can differ. They connected this to relationships, particularly in communication and friendship.
The Silver Sharks and Penguins
Students continued exploring how conscious and subconscious actions affect relationships. Through reflection and discussion, they developed strategies to challenge biases and work more respectfully with others.
Crispy Crabs
Students explored biological sex, gender, and sexual orientation, focusing on understanding differences and discussing these topics respectfully while recognising diverse viewpoints.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support.
Warm regards,
Mr. Vincent and The Halio Team
