Week 5: The Penguin Post – Kindergarten Weekly

🌈 KINDERGARTEN NEWS 🌈

It has been another fun and active week in Kindergarten, with lots of creativity, play, and hands-on learning. The students continue to grow in confidence, imagination, and curiosity, and it has been lovely to see how much they are enjoying both their learning and time with friends.

This Week

  • On Wednesday, the children will be making their own playdough and using it to shape the letters of their names. This is a great activity for developing and regonising letters in a fun and creative way.

  • For Friday’s trip, the students will be going swimming at Hampton with Hua Hin Swim School. Please ensure your child brings sunscreen, a towel, a water bottle, goggles, a plastic bag for wet clothes, and easy-to-wear shoes such as flip-flops.

Highlights from Last Week

  • Last Friday, the Kindergarten visited the Huay Sai Tai Breeding Centre. The students saw a wide variety of animals including gibbons, monkeys, deer, peacocks, and bearcats. Bearcats were the favourite animal although a few students did name them “Sticky.” There was also a playground where they enjoyed swings and seesaws. The children had a fantastic time exploring and learning about animals.

  • For Wednesday’s event, students created artwork using cling film and paint. They were encouraged to express themselves freely, painting anything they chose and experimenting with colours and patterns. Many students also added handprints to their work, making each piece more personal and unique. The activity allowed students to be creative while exploring a different and interesting surface for painting.

  • During free play, the Kindergarten students have been engaging in a wide range of imaginative and active activities. The new marble run has been popular, with children building tall structures and experimenting to see how the marbles travel through them.

Sand play has also been a favourite, with students creating sandcastles using both their hands and moulds. The trampoline has been another highlight, with games involving chasing and tagging adding to the excitement.

  • Additionally, many students have enjoyed reading with teachers, often asking to be read to, which has been a positive sign of their growing interest in books and storytelling.

The stepping stones, recently introduced by Miss Celden, have been very popular, along with dressing up as different characters and exploring role-play. Students have particularly enjoyed looking at themselves in the mirror as they take on new roles.

  • Imaginative play has been especially creative when using soldier toys, where students created dramatic scenarios involving giants and “Godzilla-like” characters destroying their town.

  • Bubble play has also been a favourite.

  • In Tales and Treasures with Ms Sara, the students created and decorated cardboard houses. They began by painting their houses in colours of their choice, before adding decorations to personalise them. The children showed great creativity and care in their designs.

  • In Music with Mr Tommy, the students continued practising songs, including Hot Cross Buns, and began learning a new song about a hammer. The children really enjoyed singing and participating in the sessions.

  • During Project Play, the students explored a range of activity stations. One station focused on water exploration, where children practised measuring and pouring using different containers. This helped develop both their coordination and early maths skills.

The session ended with a fun scarf activity, where students moved around while singing and waving scarves, combining music, movement, and expression.

Closing

We are proud of all the kindergarteners for their enthusiasm and the way they continue to explore new ideas. We look forward to another exciting week ahead.
