Welcome to Week 9
One of the things that makes Halio special is seeing students take ownership of their learning and of the school community. This week is another great example of that, with a student-led flea market, older students supporting younger classes, and plenty of opportunities for students to showcase their talents and creativity. Alongside this, we are delighted to welcome new faces into our community and look forward to another busy week.
This Week
Coffee Morning: Coffee Morning with me will take place as usual on Thursday from 8:15–9:00 a.m. Everyone is welcome to come along for an informal chat.
Student-Led Café & Mini Flea Market: The café will be open on Wednesday from 3:30 p.m. This week's event will be a student-led mini flea market, where students will be selling homemade bracelets, cupcakes, banana crisps, 3D-printed creations and other handmade items. We would love to see as many parents as possible come along to support our young entrepreneurs.
Welcome to Ms Anni: We are also pleased to welcome Ms Anni from Finland, who has now begun her practicum with us, specialising in Science and Special Educational Needs.
Visiting Musicians: This week we are delighted to welcome Ethan and Sophie, two young budding violinists who are volunteering at Halio to gain work experience. They will be supporting Mr Tommy in Music lessons throughout the week.
Clubs: Rugby Club continues on Mondays from 3:45–5:00 p.m., with all students welcome to attend. Football Club continues on Wednesdays, with the Girls' Football Club running from 3:45–4:45 p.m. in the cage, as well as our mixed Football Club from 4:00–5:00 p.m. on the field.
Trips
Lower Primary – Khao Hin Lek Fai Viewpoint: Lower Primary will visit Khao Hin Lek Fai Viewpoint, where students will enjoy panoramic views across Hua Hin while learning more about the local area. The trip will include a short nature walk and opportunities to observe the surrounding landscape and wildlife.
Please ensure your child brings a hat, sunscreen, a refillable water bottle, comfortable walking shoes or trainers, and light clothing suitable for the warm weather.
Upper Primary & Middle School – Swimming / Study Time: Upper Primary students will continue their swimming lessons at Hampton. Please ensure they bring swimwear, a towel, a change of clothes, a water bottle and adequate sun protection. Middle School students may choose either to attend swimming or remain at school for supervised study time.
Looking Ahead
A reminder that Parent–Teacher Meetings will take place next week on the following dates:
Monday 6th – Polar Bears and Agent Owls
Tuesday 7th – Hummingbirds and Sabertooth Group
Wednesday 8th – Silver Sharks, Penguins, and Crispy Crabs
We are currently trialling a new school polo shirt made from a lighter, softer fabric blend of cotton and polyester, featuring the company's "Dry-Tech" material.
We hope to share more information soon. In the meantime, parents are very welcome to ask us about the new shirts or take a look at the samples available at school.
Highlights from Last Week
The trip to Suan Son Beach was a real highlight. It was wonderful to see the students simply enjoying being children, playing in the waves, exploring the shoreline, and spending time together outdoors.
Swimming continued successfully for Lower Primary, with students working in three instructional groups while enjoying supervised games and activities in the water between lessons.
The Sabertooth Group have begun constructing a new mud kitchen play area for Kindergatern, which is already taking shape.
A new competition has been launched to redesign the Halio Hyena shirt. Students have already begun creating imaginative designs for future rugby shirts and other school merchandise.
Our first Girls' Football Club was a great success, with an excellent turnout and plenty of enthusiasm from everyone involved.
The café and school shop were once again successful, with students making a profit selling homemade doughnuts and strawberry smoothies. The café's relaxed meet-and-greet also gave students and parents the chance to get to know one another.
Thank you to Pohn, who donated blackberry plants for our school farm, which have now been planted.
Films Thursday continues to grow, with students enjoying films created by members of the Film Club and AI Comic Club after school.
A big thank you to Alisa and Arina for donating books to our school library.
Davide, Boyko, and Mia organised a fun dress-up and catwalk event for Kindergarten, helping to build confidence and encourage imaginative play.
Ping An and Toa led an art lesson for the Polar Bears.
Students working on their final Street Art projects continued refining their skills. Those creating paintings practised new techniques, while the collage group gathered materials and completed a creative mini-project by designing monsters from magazine cuttings.
Circle Time Highlights
Congratulations to Nari, who won the Harry Potter keyring, Alisa, who won an art folder, and Ping An, who won the French candle set in this week's anonymous writing competition.
Sarah, who is currently reading the Percy Jackson series, impressed everyone by sharing fascinating facts about Greek mythology.
Cross Stitch Club proudly displayed their latest creations, while Taste the Rainbow Club showcased their colourful educational posters.
Thursday's spontaneous dress-up and catwalk became one of the week's most enjoyable Circle Time moments, giving students the chance to express themselves, build confidence and celebrate one another's creativity.
Our farm continues to produce an excellent crop of mulberries, prompting a lively student debate about ownership, sharing and how they should be used.
Relationship Education
The Polar Bears
In Relationship Class, the Polar Bears learned that everyone is unique and that our differences make our classroom a special place. Through stories and discussions, students explored the importance of respecting others, celebrating what makes each person different, and making sure everyone feels included.
The Agent Owls
In Relationship Class, the Agent Owls discussed what bullying really is. They explored the different types of bullying and learned how to distinguish bullying from other behaviours, such as teasing or playful fighting. Students also discussed the important steps to take if they or someone else experiences bullying. We will continue revisiting these ideas and reinforcing them over the coming weeks.
The Hummingbirds
The Hummingbirds focused on teamwork. Each student drew a face showing how someone might feel after a meaningful moment before swapping drawings with a partner to complete. The activity sparked thoughtful discussions about what it really means to work as a team: listening to others, building on each other's ideas, and being willing to let go of a little control. This provides excellent preparation for their upcoming group presentations on kindness, self-esteem, and bullying, as well as the collaborative projects they are completing across other classes.
The Sabertooth Group
In Relationship Class, the Sabertooth Group explored the idea of "belief hygiene", considering how a balanced information diet shapes our attention, expectations, and relationships. Students discussed how focusing on only one type of information can influence what we believe and the way we perceive other people.
The Silver Sharks and Penguins
This week, the Silver Sharks and Penguins began with a check-in, sharing how they were feeling and listening to one another's experiences. Many reflected on feeling overwhelmed, tired, or sore, helping to create a supportive environment built on empathy and understanding.
The class then explored The Stories We Make Up and how our brains naturally fill in missing information by making assumptions. Students practised separating facts from assumptions and discussed how empathy, curiosity, and asking questions can help us build stronger, healthier relationships.
The Crispy Crabs In Relationship Class, the Crispy Crabs discussed decision-making and communication, focusing on situations where people in a relationship may have different ideas, expectations, or boundaries. They also explored the effects of peer pressure, why it can sometimes lead people to make poor decisions, and practical strategies for recognising and responding to it in a positive and confident way.
Well done to all students for their effort, teamwork, and attitude throughout the week.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support.
Warm regards,
Mr Vincent and the Halio Team
