Week 10: Harvests, Hilltops and Helping Hands

Welcome to Week 10

As we head into the final few weeks of term, it has been wonderful to see the school community continue to thrive. From student-led enterprise and acts of kindness to trips around Hua Hin and exciting classroom projects, our students have continued to show independence, creativity, and a willingness to help one another. With the end of term fast approaching, there is still plenty to look forward to.

This Week

  • Parent–Teacher Meetings will take place throughout the week. These meetings are optional, but we warmly invite parents to attend if they would like to discuss their child's progress.#

  • Ethan and Sophie, the two talented violinists volunteering with us, will be performing for the whole school during Circle Time on Monday at 3:00 p.m. Parents are very welcome to attend.

  • The student-run café and shop will once again be open on Wednesday but from a slightly earlier time of 3:00 p.m due to Parent teacher meetings. Also the Halio Band will be performing live at the café on Wednesday afternoon. We hope you can join us to support our talented young musicians.

  • There will be no Coffee Morning this week due to Parent–Teacher Meetings. Coffee Morning will return as normal next week.

  • This week we will sadly be saying goodbye to Amy, who has been a valued member of the Halio community for the past three years. Amy will be moving overseas with her family, and although we are sad to see her leave, we wish her every happiness in this exciting new chapter. We will also be celebrating her birthday together on Thursday before she departs.

Trips

  • The Polar Bears, Agent Owls, and Hummingbirds will continue their swimming lessons with Hua Hin Swim School at Hampton Swimming & Fitness.

Please ensure your child brings appropriate swimwear, goggles, a towel, a change of clothes, a water bottle, and adequate sun protection, including a hat and sunscreen. As always, students will enjoy a combination of structured swimming instruction and supervised free play in the water.

  • The Sabertooth Group will visit Ninepunn Café to take part in a range of creative art activities. Students will have the opportunity to spend their butterfly money on a selection of arts and crafts materials and create their own projects.

There will also be time for students to enjoy the outdoor activity area, where they are welcome to bring wheeled equipment such as bicycles, scooters, or skateboards. As there is very little shade in this area, please ensure your child has suitable sun protection.

  • The Silver Sharks and Middle School will travel to Rama VI Army Camp in Cha-Am for an exciting adventure experience. Students will have the opportunity to jump from the parachute training tower while wearing full safety harnesses, simulating the feeling of parachuting via a zip-line descent. This is a supervised activity designed to help build confidence, resilience, and a willingness to challenge themselves in a safe environment.

Looking Ahead

As we move into the final few weeks of term, there is still plenty to look forward to.

  • Family Flea Market: Our annual Family Flea Market is fast approaching. If you, or your family, would like to run a stall, please message Mr Vincent. We would love to have you join us.

  • End of Term Trips:

Lower Primary will visit Pranburi Forest Park before heading to HarbourLand at Blueport for their end-of-term trip.

  • Upper Primary and Middle School students have also voted for a trip to Siam Amazing Park in Bangkok. More information about both trips will be shared soon.

Highlights from Last Week

  • The visit to Hin Lek Fai Viewpoint was a wonderful experience. Laura and Toa's student-designed sightseeing activity sheet proved to be a great success, helping students engage with both the scenery and the history of Hua Hin.

  • The Sabertooth Group and Silver Sharks continued developing their swimming skills, practising treading water, relay races, and longer-distance swimming before enjoying some well-earned free play in the pool.

  • We would also like to thank Anni, who completed her teaching practicum with us last week. We are grateful for everything she contributed during her time at Halio and wish her every success in her teaching career.

  • Our Student Mini Flea Market was a tremendous success. Many stalls sold out completely, with students proudly selling homemade products and delicious treats. Congratulations to the Events Team, especially Ping An and Amanda, for organising such a successful event. The café also recorded its highest profit of the term so far, while fresh eggs from our school farm proved popular in the school shop.

  • Our school farm continues to thrive, with students harvesting both butterfly pea flowers and mulberries.

  • Friday afternoon's Sports on the Lawn was another enjoyable event, giving students an opportunity to play badminton, archery and football matches.

  • We are delighted to welcome back former Halio student Prin, who has rejoined the Crispy Crabs until the end of the term.

  • A special thank you to the Hummingbirds, who kindly volunteered their time and enthusiasm to help build the floor of Kindergarten's new mud kitchen.

Circle Time Highlights

  • At the beginning of each term, every student receives two pencils and an eraser. During Tuesday's Circle Time, we held a pencil check, prompted by one of our youngest students, Titchit, who asked for the entire school to take part.

  • As part of his Area of Responsibility, Pohn has continued helping younger students complete their Playground Test. Congratulations to Winston, Boyko, and Mia, who all successfully passed.

  • Mia and Maia have created a fantastic wall chart to keep track of this year's Club World Cup, doing an excellent job of keeping everyone updated. The World Cup Club also recreated some memorable moments from the tournament.

  • Thank you to the Agent Owls for helping organise and sort the school library books.

  • Students also voted on possible additions to our lunch menu, with spinach pizza being selected for a trial on Friday.

  • In our weekly contest, Davide won a new pair of slippers but kindly gave them to Daniel, who had recently broken his own. Harris won a ukulele.

  • Congratulations also to the Crispy Crabs, who organised an impromptu Halio's Got Talent event after school.

  • We finished Circle Time on Wednesday with several whole-school games, including Splat, Bang, and Honey, I Love You, helping students develop focus, confidence, and concentration while having plenty of fun.

Relationship Education

The Polar Bears

In Relationship Class, the Polar Bears explored the importance of speaking politely and treating others with respect. Through discussions and role-playing activities, students practised using kind words, listening carefully, and communicating respectfully in everyday situations. Together, they learned how polite communication helps create a caring, positive, and inclusive classroom.

The Agent Owls

The Agent Owls continued their work on understanding bullying and what it truly means. This week, students explored practical strategies for responding to bullying, including how to react in the moment and the best ways to seek help from trusted adults.

The Hummingbirds

The Hummingbirds continued preparing their group presentations on topics including self-esteem, the power of words, standing up for others, and exclusion. Students are learning to combine personal experiences with facts and anecdotes while developing the presentation skills they have been practising throughout the term.

The Sabertooth Group

The Sabertooth Group explored how repeated choices and recommendations shape what we notice, think, and believe. Through partner discussions, students began reflecting on how the media we consume can influence our understanding of the world and the people around us.

The Silver Sharks and Penguins

This week, the Silver Sharks and Penguins explored the fascinating world of psychology by taking part in several famous experiments involving memory, conformity, and anchoring. Students discussed why people often give in to peer pressure and discovered that psychology suggests we are influenced by others far more than we often realise. Becoming aware of these influences is the first step towards making more thoughtful and independent decisions.

The Crispy Crabs

The Crispy Crabs explored the differences between healthy and unhealthy relationships, discussing the key characteristics that help relationships thrive. They then focused on communication skills, learning how to express themselves in an assertive, respectful, and confident manner.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support. As we enter the final few weeks of term, there are still many exciting events, trips, and opportunities ahead.

We look forward to sharing them with you and finishing the term on a high together.

Warm regards,

Mr Vincent and the Halio Team
