Week 7: On Your Marks – From Stage to Sports Field

Welcome to Week 7

This week has been a great reflection of what makes Halio special. From a brilliant Teachers’ Day celebration and student-led performances, to meaningful progress in projects and preparation for Sports Week, it has been a week full of energy, creativity, and initiative. It has been particularly pleasing to see students stepping up, supporting one another, and taking real pride in their contributions across the school.

This Week

This week will be our main Sports Week, with a variety of activities taking place across Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, followed by our mid-term break on Thursday 18th and Friday 19th June.

Our Sports Week will kick off on Monday, where students will design materials to support and cheer on their teams, before taking part in a whole-school tournament of Gaelic football and handball on the lawn. This will be followed by a range of team-based sports activities.

Tuesday has been designed by Alhena and Alex, with support from the older students. The theme for the day is WWE: Water, World, and Edible Stuff. Students will head to Hampton for swimming races and water polo activities, before returning to school for a whole-school interactive quiz and finishing the day by preparing healthy food together.

Wednesday will be our main Sports Day event. Parents are warmly invited to join us at the school field from 9:00 – 11:30 a.m. to watch the track and field events. In the afternoon, parents are welcome to return at 1:00 p.m. for family games on the school lawn, followed by an awards ceremony at approximately 2:30 p.m.

Highlights from Last Week

  • On Thursday we celebrated Teachers’ Day, which was a beautiful and well-organised event. A special thank you to Alhena for helping to organise the ceremony alongside Kru Dteem. This was followed by a series of student-led performances.

The main student-led performance was Halio’s Got Talent, which was created and led by Matthew and Harris, who invited students to perform. Alex took on the challenge of opening the show, followed by Luca with an impressive Michael Jackson dance. Ticha and Liya performed a gymnastics routine, Sage (one of our kindergarten students) showcased handstands, and Maithai and Chafia performed a dance. Dylan, Groot, and Fah then performed their Grease-routine.

In addition, Amy, Maia, and Mia performed a comedy skit for the teachers. Many students also made thoughtful handmade cards, with Toa and Matthew creating a card for all staff.

  • The movie afternoon was a great success, with students voting between two films. One group watched Howl’s Moving Castle, while the other enjoyed Spirited Away.

  • Swimming was for upper primary was a great success and Middle school study time was very productive. Many of the Crispy Crabs focused on their novel writing, while the Penguins worked on their kindergarten newsletters.

  • The school band performed at the café on Wednesday, with Davide joining for his first performance. Pohn, Jom, and Patee also did a great job running the café, making a profit with their homemade brownies and pandan drinks.

  • The school shop continues to grow, with Vicky and Xi En expanding the range of items available. Students sold homemade bracelets, dried mango (Eden), 3D printed items (Linus), and banana crisps (Seren).

  • Students have also been busy preparing for Sports Day, designing 15 different activity stations, ranging from takraw to archery ready for Wednesday afternoon.

  • Bella, Pya, Liea, Maithai, and Ticha volunteered in kindergarten and were excellent role models.

  • The Sabertooth Group’s homemade chess set was officially completed and donated to the school.

  • The Hummingbirds completed their final presentations for their street art project.

  • Finally, our Sports Day shirts arrived and were distributed to students.

Circle Time Highlights

  • Students voted on the sports to be included in Sports Week after taking part in Gaelic football masterclasses, with the majority selecting it as the opening event.

  • We also completed our club trials, and students selected their clubs for the term. Alongside existing clubs, we are excited to introduce a new AI Comic Book Club, led by Khun Jop, who has kindly volunteered to teach at the school.

  • Clubs continue to showcase their work, with Little Makers creating jewellery, Cross Stitch Club presenting their designs, and Film Making Club hosting a screening event after school.

  • The Polar Bears shared their fossils and demonstrated how they created paint using organic materials.

  • The Winter Hummingbirds also produced impressive artwork in the absence of Khun Yaya, exploring art movements such as surrealism, impressionism, cubism, and pop art.

  • Thank you to Amy who volunteered to help the road safety group with helping children cross the road to get to our school shop and cafe.

Relationship Education

The Polar Bears

The Polar Bears explored what it means to be a good friend, focusing on helping and supporting others, including everyone, and giving others a fair chance. They also discussed the importance of rules and how they help keep everyone safe and respected.

The Agent Owls

The Agent Owls continued exploring behaviour across different areas of the school, discussing what is appropriate and why it matters. They also reviewed their roles and responsibilities within the school community.

The Hummingbirds

Students focused on developing confident communication, practising skills such as slowing down, making eye contact, and speaking with intention. They also began preparing for upcoming group presentations.

The Sabertooth Group

Sabertooth students explored how attention shapes experience and how repeated information can influence beliefs. They discussed the importance of developing a healthy “mind diet.”

The Silver Sharks and Penguins

Students concluded their unit on subconscious decision-making and its impact on relationships. They explored the concept of “invisible walls” in relationships and worked collaboratively to identify strategies for breaking them down, including creating symbolic representations of these ideas.

The Crispy Crabs

The Crispy Crabs continued their work on relationships and health education, focusing on STDs and STIs, including prevention strategies such as abstinence, safe practices, and informed decision-making.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support.

Warm regards,

Mr Vincent and the Halio Team
