Welcome to Week 4
It has been another busy and positive week at Halio, with students continuing to take ownership of their learning, lead events, and support one another across the school. It has been particularly pleasing to see students stepping up in different areas, showing initiative, creativity, and responsibility. We are looking forward to another exciting week ahead.
This Week
Coffee Morning: Coffee Morning with me will now take place on Thursday mornings from 8:15 to 9:00 a.m.
Clubs: Rugby club will begin on Monday after school from 3:45 to 5:00 p.m. All students are welcome to join. Football club will now run only on Wednesdays from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m.
Café and Halio Band Event on Wednesday 27th: This Wednesday, the café will be run by Abigail, Arina, and Amy, who will be selling banana bread and oatmeal cookies.
The Halio Band, featuring Alhena, Alisa, Matthew, and Sarah, will perform three songs at approximately 3:35P.M., followed by an open mic session where anyone is welcome to perform. Parents are welcome to join us and we look forward to seeing you there.
Friday Trips
The Polar Bears and Agent Owls will visit the Huay Sai breeding and rescue centre, where students will observe animals being cared for and learn about wildlife native to Thailand. Please ensure your child has appropriate sun or weather protection.
The Hummingbirds will travel to Petchaburi to explore street art before visiting Phra Nakhon Khiri. Students should arrive at school at the normal time, and we will travel by minivan. Please ensure all students bring sun protection and comfortable walking shoes. If you choose to send money, please limit it to no more than 200 Baht. We aim to return by approximately 4:30 p.m., with updates shared via Line.
Upper Primary and Middle School will remain at school for a choice of a movie or board game afternoon. Students will vote on their preferred activity and film on Friday.
Looking Ahead
Sports Day will take place on Wednesday 17th June at the school field from 9:15 to 11:30 a.m. All parents are warmly invited to attend. We will also be ordering Sports Day shirts, and further information will follow shortly.
Highlights from Last Week
The bee keeping event at our cafe was a great success. Each student who wore yellow received a homemade cookie made by our older students. Well done to Toa, Amanda, and Tar Ping for organising the event, and to Toa for delivering an excellent masterclass.
Our student running the café made a profit, so congratulations to Eden, Yuzu, Maxi, Jude, and Tar Ping for running the café and to Alhena for assisting.
The trip to Mrigadayavan Palace was a valuable learning experience, with students gaining insight into Thai history and culture. Thank you to Laura for designing a scavenger hunt for the trip. The mangroves and beach were also a highlight, with many students keen to explore the ecosystem further.
Lower Primary's swimming sessions was a success. The students are making good progress and enjoyed their time in the water.
The Polar Bears, along with Patee and Jom, visited a plant shop to purchase flowers for the school. Patee and Jom also showed great initiative by helping to clean the shop.
Thank you to Liana and Leon for donating new books to the school.
Circle Time Highlights
The Hummingbirds shared their street art work, which will soon be displayed around the school.
In the anonymous writing contest, Davide won the Slytherin postcard and Ping An the Hogwarts postcard. Fah, Alhena, and Smile won a bag. Maithai won earphones, Jon won a notepad, and Harris won the 3D shell.
Each class selected crops they would like to grow for their farm plots, which they will begin planting this week.
The Polar Bears impressed us with their dinosaur creations made from air-drying clay, while learning about carnivores, herbivores, and omnivores. Also in Art of the Arabian Nights, they explored the story of Alibaba and the Forty Thieves and created their own coins, linking this to real-world currency from different countries.
Pep passed the playground test. Thank you to Nari and Xi Ai for supporting him.
Amy and Willow won the Mini World Cup in World Cup Club representing the Netherlands.
More films were showcased from Movie Club, with Alex and Harris continuing to lead the group very effectively.
Relationship Education
Polar Bears
The Polar Bears welcomed a new student and spent time getting to know one another. They also discussed lunchtime expectations, including portion sizes, mindful eating, and routines such as washing their plates and checking if they are properly clean.
Agent Owls
The Agent Owls completed their unit on emotions and emotional regulation. They focused on how to support others, when to give space, and how to seek help. These ideas were reinforced through role-play and discussion.
Hummingbirds
The Hummingbirds explored the impact of words through a powerful toothpaste demonstration, highlighting how words cannot be taken back. They also discussed standing up for themselves, giving sincere apologies, and thinking before speaking.
Sabertooth Group
The Sabertooth Group explored how our brains make assumptions in social situations. Through discussions about friendships and inclusion, they reflected on how to better understand and support one another.
Silver Sharks and Penguins
Students explored how both conscious and subconscious actions affect relationships. Through drama activities, they examined themes of belonging, empathy, and inclusion, and reflected on how their actions can make others feel included or excluded. The lesson concluded with a “human museum” activity to represent their ideas.
Crispy Crabs
The Crispy Crabs continued exploring pregnancy and development in the womb. They learned about prenatal care, the experiences of pregnancy, and how a fetus develops, including understanding twins.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support.
Warm regards,
Mr. Vincent and The Halio Team
