Week 7: Kindergarten Weekly – Silver Shark Bites
🌈 KINDERGARTEN NEWS 🌈
Welcome to another edition of The Silver Shark Bites!
Last week, the kindergarteners were busy learning about Halloween, making decorations, painting with bubble wrap and helping around the school. They also enjoyed a Friday trip to Malai Farm, where they met lots of interesting animals.
This Week
Halloween is almost here! The kindergarteners have been busy preparing decorations and learning about Halloween in their classes.
On Wednesday, we will have our school Halloween party, where the children can dress up, enjoy the activities and see some of the decorations they have helped make.
After the party, school will be closed on Thursday and Friday for our mid-term break.
Last Week's Highlights
Last week, there were lots of lovely moments in Kindergarten, including some special visitors and a familiar face returning to school.
On Tuesday, monks visited Halio for a ceremony to honour the anniversary of the late King Bhumibol's passing. The kindergarteners had the opportunity to observe the ceremony and learn about an important part of Thai culture and tradition. Some children also brought food offerings for the monks.
Another lovely moment was welcoming Kinga back to Kindergarten after spending a couple of weeks in Australia. It was great to have her back with her friends, and she even brought a little gift for everyone, which was a lovely surprise.
Hendrix, Herbie and Rumi also helped around the school by clearing sand from the rainwater drainage paths. With all the rain we've been having, this was a useful job, and it was great to see the children helping to look after their school.
Kindergarten Clubs
Last week, the kindergarteners were making Halloween decorations during their club.
They cut out paper ghosts and decorated them for the Halloween party. They also spent time finishing some of their other Halloween crafts.
Their decorations will help make the school look spooky for Wednesday's celebration.
Friday Trip – Malai Farm
On Friday, the kindergarteners went on a trip to Malai Farm, where they got to see and feed lots of different animals.
One of the most exciting animals was Milo the bird, who flew around and even landed on some of the children's heads!
The kindergarteners also saw colourful iguanas of different sizes, crocodiles and two raccoons playing together. The raccoons were particularly entertaining to watch.
The children enjoyed feeding the animals and getting a closer look at them.
There were also some small bridges to cross. A few children were a little nervous at first, but they managed to cross them successfully.
It was an exciting day with lots of animals to discover, and the children had a wonderful time exploring the farm.
Classes from Last Week
Last week, the kindergarteners enjoyed a variety of activities in their classes, including learning about Halloween, making colourful artwork and practising new skills.
In Ms Celden's class, the kindergarteners learned about consonants and sang the consonant song. They enjoyed it so much that they asked to sing it several times! The song was such a hit that even some of the younger siblings started singing along.
The older kindergarteners, aged five and six, have also continued enjoying their quiet time. During this time, they can choose relaxing activities such as puzzles, reading or colouring. This has been working really well, giving the children a chance to slow down, relax and enjoy some peaceful time during their school day.
In Mr Chad's class, the children learned some new Halloween words, including jack-o'-lantern, trick-or-treat, Halloween party, haunted house, black cat, spider and bat. They played a matching game where they had to find a partner with the same Halloween picture. Afterwards, they coloured paper Halloween puppets, which they will finish cutting out in their next lesson.
In Ms Sara's class, the kindergarteners listened to a story about fruits and vegetables. After the story, they did a creative painting activity using bubble wrap attached to cardboard shapes of different fruits and vegetables. They painted the bubble wrap and pressed it onto paper to make colourful prints.
The children also had their PE lesson indoors because of the heavy rain. Instead of going outside, they had their session in the Kindergarten room.
There was no music class with Mr Tommy this week, as he was busy preparing for the Halio Band's performance at the Wednesday café.
Closing
That's all from The Silver Shark Bites this week!
Thank you to the Kindergarten teachers for sharing what the children have been doing, and to our Silver Shark reporters for helping tell their stories.
We hope everyone enjoys the Halloween party and has a lovely mid-term break.
