🌈 KINDERGARTEN NEWS 🌈

Welcome to another edition of The Silver Shark Bites, written by our Silver Sharks!

We hope you enjoy reading their latest reports!

This Week

Friday's Trip: Malai Farm

This week, the kindergarteners will be going to Malai Farm for their Friday trip, which is a fun and exciting opportunity for students to feed and pet animals. Because this is an outdoor adventure, don't forget to bring sneakers and sun protection.

Clubs:

For the students' clubs on Wednesday, they will be making Halloween decorations to help prepare for our fun Wednesday Halloween event.

Farm/Plants:

The kindergarteners are still taking care of their little farm under the trampoline, and the garlic and onions are really improving, for they are no longer sprouts.

Last Week's Highlights

By Xi-En, Tar-Ping and Jom

Throughout the week in Kindergarten, there were lots of highlights.

One of the highlights was dancing to a song and singing along together. They played the song during morning circle. Singing and dancing together created a happy atmosphere.

Another highlight was making origami cards. They folded origami paper into cards for their parents. While decorating the cards, they put their full attention into it. Afterwards, they were proud of themselves.

The kindergarteners had a wonderful time last week, which added to their happiness and joy. That makes school fun and a great place to learn.

Swimming from Last Week

By Mac and Pohn

Last week, the kindergarteners went on a swimming trip. They got to practise swimming skills for safety, such as freestyle, diving and backstroke.

The five- and six-year-olds went first with both of the coaches. They mainly focused on backstroke and diving, while the three- and four-year-olds focused more on freestyle. They also focused on the foundations of kicking in the water, like bending their knees.

After they finished learning with their coaches, they played some fun games. Some of the games they played were tag, family (family is when they pretend to be family members and act like them) and horse riding (horse riding is where they ride on each other's backs, of course on the older kids' backs and with teacher supervision).

They learned this because it's important for children to feel safe and confident in the water. In the end, they all learned new, helpful skills.

Kindergarten Clubs

By Eden and Seren

Last week, the kindergarteners' club was making chocolate balls. The ingredients were oats and dates. First, they used a pestle and mortar to smash up the dates and mix in the oats. The children had lots of fun crushing and grinding the ingredients themselves.

Once the mixture had turned into a dough, they shaped it into little balls and rolled them in cocoa powder. Then they had yummy chocolate balls to eat.

All the children enjoyed the chocolate balls and even asked the teachers for more, but the teachers said no since they had already had enough.

It was fun for them to use the pestle and mortar, and shaping the dough into balls was also super-duper easy. Putting them in the cocoa powder was easy too. They kept asking for more chocolate balls, but the teacher's answer was still no.

Classes

By Patee, Linus and Vicky,

Last week, the kindergarteners enjoyed a variety of exciting classes. It was awesome to see them having lots of fun while learning together.

In Ms Celden's class, the kindergarteners learned about the Puff the Magic Dragon song. After learning about the song, they made their own dragons. They talked about their dragons, what elements they had chosen for them and, most importantly, their names.

Yeatso (a child from Kindergarten) named her dragon Druk, which translates to dragon in Bhutanese. Hendrix (another child) said, "My dragon's name is Flash."

Another class was Ms Sara's class. After learning about the story, the children made origami folding cards. The students also made paper popsicles, which they could colour, draw on or even stick paper onto.

Throughout the classes, the children showed their skills by making the cards, paper popsicles and learning songs. They showed their creativity, arts and crafts, and social skills.

In Mr Chad's class, they did a variety of different activities. They counted numbers from 1 to 10 and 1 to 20, and they were playing with the numbers while making different things around them.

More Kindergarten Highlights

From last week's newsletter

Last week, during Kindergarten self-directed time, there were lots of highlights, including some role-play games.

During their free time, the kindergarteners role-played as mermaids and pirates. They turned the playground into a giant pirate ship and made an anchor from twigs and rope. Afterwards, someone suggested that pirates should chase mermaids, which led to a lot of screaming and fun.

This game helped students learn how to play and collaborate together, especially as the older children played with the younger students. It also showed imagination and creativity.

Later in the day, Eva, Louie and JJ played the drums. "It was lots of fun," said Eva.

The kindergarteners also really loved playing an animal memory game. They play with it every day.

After planting onions and garlic last week, they had started to grow bigger than ever. They loved planting so much that they started to plant random things, for example, a whole tamarind (not only the seed), which, of course, didn't grow.

In their class, they did partner yoga, where they had to do yoga with a partner. It included teamwork and communication.

The kindergarteners had a wonderful time last week.

Making Play-Doh

This week, the kindergarteners made Play-Doh. They had a lot of fun making the Play-Doh and playing with it.

What interested the teacher was that they were making it themselves. The teachers showed them how to make it. Ms Melanie forgot to get them gloves to make their own Play-Doh, but they still had fun.

Making the Play-Doh for clubs, they were very energetic. Unless the teacher told them to stop a few times, they wouldn't stop. They would stop for a few minutes, then come back with energy again.

Some helped each other to make the Play-Doh.

They all enjoyed making the Play-Doh, and they were happy to be able to do it.

For the Play-Doh, they made different colours: red, green and blue.
