Week 12: Preparing, Producing & Problem Solving

Welcome to Week 12

As we head into the final two weeks of term, there is still plenty happening at Halio. Students are busy preparing for our annual Flea Market, final projects are coming together, and there are still lots of opportunities for trips, clubs, and student-led activities before the break. Thank you, as always, for your continued support.

This Week

• After-School Clubs: Rugby Club continues on Monday from 3:45–5:00 p.m. and is open to students of all ages and abilities.

  
  

  Football Club continues on Wednesday. The Girls' Football Club will run from 3:45–4:45 p.m. in the cage, alongside the open football session on the school field from 4:00–5:00 p.m.

• The Halio Café will be open this Wednesday from 3:30 p.m. This week's theme is a Farm Harvest Event, with students selling produce grown on our own school farm. We hope you'll come along to support them.

Trips

• Lower Primary will travel by songthaew to Sip Kao Rai (Queen's Park) by the beach on Soi 19. Students are welcome to bring roller skates, scooters, skateboards, bicycles, or any other wheeled equipment to continue developing their confidence and coordination with friends.

  
  

  Parents wishing their child to wear protective equipment such as helmets, knee pads, or elbow pads are encouraged to send these along and remind their child to wear them.

  
  

  There will also be time to enjoy the beach, so children are welcome to bring swimwear, a towel, and a change of clothes, along with plenty of sun protection, including a hat and sunscreen.

• Upper Primary and the middle school students will remain at school for a fun afternoon of activities, including a movie afternoon and a Nerf battle. Students who own a Nerf blaster are welcome to bring it to school for the afternoon.

• On Wednesday 29th July, we will hold our annual Halio Flea Market. If parents would like to run a stall, sell unwanted items, or create something to sell, please let me know.

• Our End-of-Term Trips take place on Friday 31st July. If you have not already done so, we kindly ask that trip payments are made before the end of next week.

Highlights from Last Week

• Lower Primary enjoyed their visits to Mrigadayavan Palace and Sirinart Rajini Mangrove Park, where students explored local history, wildlife, and the natural environment while completing a variety of teacher-led activities.

  
  

• Upper Primary completed their final swimming lesson of the term. It has been wonderful to watch students' confidence and swimming ability improve throughout the programme.

• Students also voted on a brand-new sports shirt for Halio. Following a school-wide design competition, Daniel's design was chosen as the winner and will become the identity of our new Halio Hammerheads Touch Rugby Team. We will now produce a prototype before making a final decision on production. Parents who may be interested in purchasing one are welcome to let me know.

  
  

• We also voted on whether to modernise our Halio Hyena shirts. Students submitted many excellent designs, and we will now produce a few prototypes before making a final decision. The competition has been a fantastic opportunity for students to help shape the future identity of the school.

• Preparations for next week's Flea Market are well underway, with many students including the Events Group beginning work on decorations. If you would like to have a stall, there is still time to let Mr Vincent know.

• A huge thank you to Dylan and Ben, who kindly donated a new set of jumping boxes to the school.

• Thank you also to Ticha, Leia, Mia C., Esther, and Fah for helping Ms Sara stitch the cushions for the main hall.

• Due to the rain, Wednesday's Café, Shop, and Chess Tournament were moved indoors. Despite the weather, the Café and Shop both made a profit, while the Chess Tournament, held to celebrate International Chess Day, was won by Max, who defeated four opponents to become Halio's Chess Champion.

• Finally, we helped celebrate Amanda's birthday on Friday with a birthday cake and plenty of smiles.

Circle Time Highlights

• Students reflected on their experiences from the previous week's parachute jump, sharing stories about overcoming nerves and trying something new.

• Pohn, Jom, and Patee presented exciting plans to redesign parts of the school playground as part of their Area of Responsibility.

  
  

• A special thank you to Luca, Alex, Daniel, Banjo, Harris, and Prin for helping construct the new mud kitchen.

  
  

• Alhena helped organise business licences for students wishing to sell items at the upcoming Flea Market, with many students officially receiving their licences during Circle Time.

• In this week's competition, Bella won the teapot prize, Pya won the Harry Potter wand, and Davide and Seren each won a lolly. An additional prize will be awarded to Mia after she entertained everyone with a selection of magic tricks.

  
  

• The World Cup Club once again kept everyone updated with the latest stories and highlights from the tournament.

  
  

• Students also held an interesting debate about squishies in school. It was agreed that students should always ask their teacher before using them in class and that they should be put away if they become a distraction.

• The Agent Owls proudly presented their self-portraits during Circle Time.

• Congratulations to Banjo, who became the youngest current student to pass the Halio Playground Test.

Relationship Education

Polar Bears

In Relationship Class, the Polar Bears learned about living a healthy lifestyle. They explored healthy eating by learning to "eat the rainbow," discovered how foods change with the seasons, and discussed food allergies. Students also learned the importance of keeping their bodies active through Freeze Dance and practised meditation to support their mental wellbeing.

Agent Owls

The Agent Owls revisited the important steps for dealing with bullying. Through role-play and discussion, students practised using the correct language and responses while exploring real-life situations that some children had experienced or witnessed.

Hummingbirds

The Hummingbirds began with games designed to develop confident speaking and active listening before hearing a presentation about feeling left out. The discussion quickly became a thoughtful conversation as students began sharing their own experiences. The topic will continue next week as the class explores practical ways of supporting themselves and others.

Sabertooth Group

In relationship class, Sabertooth explored how our world is shaped, from the people around us to the media we choose each day. Through discussion about social media and algorithms, they began asking how to build healthier information habits.

Silver Sharks & Penguins

Students continued exploring famous psychological studies and experiments, including how ideas such as conformity can be observed within everyday school life. They also discussed the ethics of these studies before beginning to design an original psychological investigation of their own.

Crispy Crabs

The Crispy Crabs discussed a range of social situations that teenagers may encounter and explored healthy, practical ways of responding to them. The class focused on realistic, actionable solutions while considering the importance of communication, empathy, and making positive decisions.
