Welcome to Week 5
As we approach mid-term, students are now fully settled into routines and making excellent progress in their projects and classes. It has been wonderful to see their growing confidence, independence, and enthusiasm for learning across the school.
This Week at Halio
Café ThursdaysEvery Thursday, our café will be open alongside a special event. This week, the café will be run by Kacie, Laura, and Matthew, who will be making coconut brownies, and watermelon sorbet. The Sabertooth group are also selling their noodles from the Oodles of Noodles class.
Friday – Touch Rugby and Reading Morning - The Hub will visit us on Friday morning for a game of touch rugby against the Ninjas and Crystal Tigers. Practice and the match will run from 9:30–10:30 a.m., and parents are very welcome to stay and watch.
Parents who want to stay and watch the match are also invited to join their child in the new school building for breakfast and a discussion about reading and books. This is a great opportunity to see your child in action as they analyse and talk about their learning.
The Crystal Tigers are producing their own newsletter, which will be available to read all week in the school shop and during the café on Thursday.
Trips
Lower Primary will go swimming again, as swimming was delayed in January due to cooler temperatures.
Upper Primary students will be shopping for materials related to their Areas of Responsibility on Friday afternoon, in preparation for starting their projects after mid-term.
Looking Ahead
Monday 9 February: We are excited to welcome Adam Ippolito, a musician who, among many achievements, was a keyboardist with John Lennon. He will perform at the end of Circle Time in the main hall. Parents are warmly invited to attend from around 3:15 p.m.
Tuesday 10 February: Departure for our Annual Camp. We will return on Thursday 12 February, followed by our Mid-term Break on Friday 13 and Monday 16 February.
Highlights from Last Week
On Saturday, Alhena, Alex, Calvin, Grace, Luca, Milin, Paploy, Ping An, Prin, Sern, and Winner sat their O-NET exams. They were in good spirits and represented the school extremely well.
The Hummingbirds cared for caterpillars all week, which successfully transformed into butterflies. They explained the metamorphosis process during Circle Time.
Davide and Paploy, with help from Alhena, opened the café for the first time this term, making and selling mango sorbet and bruschetta, using some ingredients grown on the farm. They made a profit and produced wonderful food.
Laura and Kacie performed their dance at the café. Despite some technical issues, they remained highly professional and performed beautifully.
The Crystal Tigers printed their first newsletter.
Milin, Davide, Grace, and Calvin did a great job supporting road safety, helping students and staff cross safely after school.
Contest winners were Bella, Fan, and Maithai (mystery bags) and Davide and Toa (bookmarks).
Esther and Nari are showing wonderful entrepreneurial spirit, having started their own perfume business within the school.
New board games have arrived in school and were tested by our Penguins
There was a multitude of projects, artwork and information shared during circle time from different class , including poster, cake painting, cupcake designs, pistons and engines
Trips were a big success with our first swimming lesson and the Penguins going go karting.
Relationship Education
Agent OwlsStudents explored anger through storytelling and discussion. They completed The Volcano of Anger worksheet, comparing anger to an erupting volcano and identifying ways to calm it; such as rain, cooling snow, or sinking it into the sea. This helped students reflect on emotional regulation while showcasing their creativity.
Hummingbirds and SabertoothsStudents discussed what happens after an apology and how trust and forgiveness are rebuilt over time. They explored responsible ways to repair relationships through changed behaviour, patience, and positive actions.
Silver SharksThe group completed discussions around the physical changes of puberty, addressing any remaining questions. We then began exploring the emotional changes that occur during puberty, which we will continue next week.
Penguin, Ninja, and Crystal Tiger BoysStudents reflected on how they have interacted over the past week, focusing on moments of disagreement and working through more positive and supportive ways to respond.
Ninjas and Crystal Tigers (Girls)Students explored belonging, exclusion, and social power. As friendships become more intense with age, discussions focused on balancing close friendships with inclusion. Recognising exclusion as a form of bullying was challenging for some, and this will continue to be explored sensitively throughout the term.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support and involvement in school life.
Warm regards,
Vincent and The Halio Team
